Lisa comes from an excellent food and wine background having worked first as Restaurant Manager for the high volume restaurant, Strike Four Dublin, then moving into fine dining at the Shelbourne Hotel Dublin, while there she found a love of wine and went on to become the Sommelier at No. 27 the Green restaurant. Finally Lisa moved to the prestigious 5 Red Star K Club Hotel Golf & Spa as Chief Sommelier. Here she dealt with 7 wine lists for 4 restaurants, function rooms and over 150 hospitality staff. She also won the Wine Experience Award 2006 at the Gold Star Hotel & Catering Review Awards and was Chief Sommelier at the 2006 Ryder Cup Matches. Lisa is now a consultant for the K Club.
This Qualification aims to provide a basic introduction to the main styles of wines available to your front line staff involved in the service of wine. The qualification aims to provide the basic product knowledge and skills in the service of wine required to prepare a person for their job in hospitality.
On completion of this course a candidate will be able to:
- Describe in general terms the main styles of wine available
- Display a basic understanding of the factors that determine these styles
- Describe in general terms the characteristics of the principal grape varieties
- Describe the procedures for the storage and preparation of wine for service
- Describe the procedures for the bar and table service of wine
- Display and understanding of the social responsibility of the serving of wine
- Use the Level 1 WSET (tm) Systematic Approach to Tasting to produce simple tasting records
- Offer basic food and wine matching advice based on your menu
.This course is designed around a one day or two day sessions, no more than 6hrs in one day or 9hrs over two days, that will enable front line staff to have confidence when suggesting wine to your customers, presenting wine, opening and pouring wine.
On completion of this course candidates will need to pass a 30 multiple choice exam paper assessing their knowledge and understanding. The pass requirement is 20 correct answers.
They will also need to present a portfolio of tasting notes that they have completed during the course.
The cost for this course is €200.00 per person for the one day course and €225.00 per person for the two day course, based on a minimum of 10 and maximum of 16 per course
